ABOUT HALLSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BOBCAT BELLES

The Bobcat Belles are the National Grand Champion award winning, precision dance/drill team of Hallsville High School. The Bobcat Belles began in 1979, making them one of the oldest high school drill teams in East Texas.

The Bobcat Belles drill team organization was founded in 1979 by Mrs. Seleta Cummins. They performed in two football games the fall of that year and were on their way. The next summer the Belles attended drill team camp to prepare for their year of participation. They donned new uniforms and performed a full football season. In 1982, the Belles extended their performance year to include contest and a stage show. The first stage show entitled "Showcase" was directed by Mrs. Cummins and the traditional high kick finale known as "Friends" made its grand debut.

The year 1982 marked a "changing of the guards" as the Belles got a new director, Mrs. Cindy Martin. It was an exciting year as the Belles received their first Sweepstakes award at the Blue and Gold Contest. The Belles continued to mature into a fine drill team as they brought home a Sweepstakes trophy from contest which entitled them to make their first trip to the state drill team contest in Houston where they received a gold division rating.
In December of 1988, Mrs. Freda Goerner began her reign. Under her direction, the Bobcat Belles became a force to be reckoned with at competitions, attending several contests across Texas each year. Under Mrs. Goerner's direction, the Belles were awarded many National Grand Champion titles, and continued to wow their audience with innovative and memorable routines. In 2011, Freda Goerner was awarded a lifetime achievement award through Showtime International.

The Belles are currently under the direction of Mrs. Kathryn Calaway and Assistant Director Mandy Jenkins. They are proud to have been former Bobcat Belles themselves and dance under the supervision of Mrs. Freda Goerner. They continue to maintain the traditions and values the Bobcat Belles uphold.

In the fall, the Belles perform at all Varsity football games to accompaniments performed by the Hallsville Bobcat Sweepstakes Band. In the winter, the Belles perform at Ladycat and Bobcat Varsity Basketball games. Also in the winter, the Belles host a dance variety show held in the high school auditorium featuring everything from tap and jazz to hip hop and modern and of course their traditional high kick finale to "Friends". In the spring, the Belles travel across Texas to compete with hundreds of other dance and drill teams for Regional and National Grand Champion titles.
